Living in the countryside remains an attractive prospect for many Germans \u2013 but only under certain conditions. 23% of respondents stated that a move would only be considered if the destination has good digital infrastructure. A further 22% made reliable public transport connections a prerequisite.<\/p>\n

The desire for more peace, nature, and living space is strong, but the willingness to move to rural areas is tied to specific requirements. Rural living is not seen as a retreat, but as a way of life that demands both connectivity and functionality.<\/p>\n

Reasons<\/h3>\n

The demands placed on rural living spaces have changed significantly in recent years. Besides traditional motives such as lower housing costs or larger living spaces, technical and infrastructural factors now play a central role.<\/p>\n

Digital accessibility is a crucial factor for many \u2013 not only for professional purposes, but also for education, health, and social participation. Public transport also remains a key issue: longer journeys or poor connections significantly restrict daily life.<\/p>\n

Families, especially those in middle age groups, are increasingly expressing interest in living in green spaces, provided the conditions are right. Younger people are more nuanced \u2013 they value nature and tranquility, but at the same time expect cultural offerings and career prospects.<\/p>\n

Forecast<\/h3>\n

Rural areas will become increasingly attractive in the future, particularly if they are compatible with the demands of modern life. This includes a reliable digital infrastructure, flexible mobility options, basic public services, and opportunities for social integration.<\/p>\n

The rural region is no longer seen merely as a place of retreat, but as an independent place for living, working and social life.<\/p>\n
