very present in the everyday lives of citizens.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,3\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,5\"><span class=\"citation-40\">More than two out of five Germans say they actively engage with animals at least once a week \u2013 a remarkable number, twice as high as, for example, jogging and also higher than video games, reading books or visiting restaurants.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,7\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,9\"><span class=\"citation-39\">For many citizens, caring for animals is a central leisure activity.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,11\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,13\"><span class=\"citation-38\">Differences emerge depending on spatial conditions and gender: In smaller communities<\/span><span class=\"citation-38\">\u00a0Almost every second person is involved with animals, while in large cities it&#039;s only about every third person.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,15\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,17\"><span class=\"citation-37\">Furthermore, this activity is more pronounced in women than in men.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"6,19\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"source-inline-chip-container ng-star-inserted\"><\/div>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"7\">Reasons<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\"><span data-path-to-node=\"8,1\"><span class=\"citation-36\">Pets often take on the role of an emotional anchor in many everyday situations by providing closeness, structuring the daily routine, and not judging.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,3\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,5\"><span class=\"citation-35\">Especially in single-person households, among older people, and among people with special needs, keeping animals unfolds an enormous social power.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,7\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,9\"><span class=\"citation-34\">Studies also show that regular contact with animals reduces stress hormones, stabilizes heart rate, and improves overall health.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,11\">.<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,15\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,17\"><span class=\"citation-32\">The intense relationship between humans and animals is not a modern phenomenon, but has historical roots.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,19\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,21\"><span class=\"citation-31\">Today, pets are more likely to live in the countryside than in the city, but they are also present in urban areas and their numbers have increased there in recent years.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,23\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,25\"><span class=\"citation-30\">Families with children often use animal husbandry to teach responsibility.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,27\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,29\"><span class=\"citation-29\">For people living alone, pets serve as an important counterbalance to loneliness.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"8,31\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"source-inline-chip-container ng-star-inserted\"><\/div>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"9\">Forecast<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\"><span data-path-to-node=\"10,1\"><span class=\"citation-28\">The desire for closeness, reliability, and belonging will continue in the future, with pets playing a central role.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,3\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,5\"><span class=\"citation-27\">It can be assumed that new models of animal husbandry will develop, such as &quot;dog sharing&quot; already practiced today.\u201e<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,7\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,9\"><span class=\"citation-26\">This concept makes it possible to share the benefits of a bond with an animal with others, thereby learning continuous responsibility, but without bearing the burden seven days a week.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,11\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,13\"><span class=\"citation-25\">Furthermore, technological developments will significantly shape animal husbandry.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,15\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,17\"><span class=\"citation-24\">Fitness trackers for dogs that monitor movement, heart rate, calorie consumption and even sleep are already on the market.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,19\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,21\"><span class=\"citation-23\">Digitized animal husbandry, for example with automated gates or feed dispensers, as well as technical aids against birds of prey in chicken farming, are also expected to gain in importance.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,23\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,25\"><span class=\"citation-22\">Another future topic is the use of robot dogs, which are already being used in Japanese nursing homes to provide structure and as companions for people with dementia or those who are lonely.<\/span><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,27\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"10,29\"><span class=\"citation-21\">Overall, pets are more than just companions; they reflect societal needs, provide closeness in an increasingly individualized world, and encourage the assumption of
