Our research

Topics and methodology

Our research encompasses a broad portfolio: statistics, data, surveys, analyses, interpretations and forecasts, empirical evidence and imagination, vision and responsibility. For over 45 years, we have been posing many of these questions to the public at (ir)regular intervals.

Based on this foundation, we can create time series, track societal developments, and make predictions for the future. These future-oriented topics affect each of us: for example, family, leisure, work, consumption, or housing. In addition to our time series research, we also explore new topics and questions related to current developments that offer insights into contemporary societal processes.

We aim to contribute to a positive development of society with optimism.

In the foundation's future-oriented podcast, Ayaan and Uli discuss their current research and what's currently driving the foundation. They raise questions about the future and make predictions. Brain food for your ears.

Current research

"Research Update" is the name of the foundation's newsletter, which keeps you up-to-date with the latest research findings.

Tourism analysis

For over 40 years, a representative cross-section of the German population has been surveyed annually about their travel behavior for the tourism analysis. Why, for how long, and where did they travel? How much money did they spend, and what are their plans for next year? Find out everything about the future of travel here.

Leisure time monitor

Since 1986, the foundation has regularly analyzed the leisure activities of Germans, compiled time series, and made future predictions. How have leisure activities changed over the decades? What is the significance of leisure time, and what will its future hold?

Expectations for the future

All the results of our research that are longer than the chart of the week but shorter than a publication are presented here. This knowledge allows us not only to react to future changes, but to act proactively.
