Summer heat revitalises tired men

Current survey results from the BAT Leisure Research Institute

The unusually hot summer has made Germans more sociable and adventurous after work. According to a flash survey conducted by the BAT Leisure Research Institute in Hamburg, two-thirds (64%) of respondents are in a better mood and more than half (55%) feel better overall.

The high summer temperatures are making men more active. 57 percent of men have more contact with friends and neighbors (compared to 45 percent of women), and 43 percent of men find it easier to meet new people (compared to 37 percent of women). This increased activity among men is also reflected in their relationships with the opposite sex: in the summer heat, the proportion of men who enjoy sex is twice as high (44 percent) as that of women (22 percent).

Contrary to expectations, according to the BAT Leisure Research Institute, only about a third of the population finds the high temperatures burdensome. They sometimes feel lethargic and lack motivation. Surprisingly low, at just 16 percent, is the proportion of those disturbed by increased noise (neighbors' barbecues, music from open windows, etc.). However, the heat and the lively leisure activities are also taking their toll on sleep: every second respondent (55 %) is sleeping considerably less than usual.
