More than one in five people (21%) already go camping at least once a year. This type of holiday is also becoming increasingly attractive for one in ten people. Within the population, families in particular are showing interest in potential holidays with a motorhome.
Reasons
In an increasingly digital world, many people are longing to return to the simple life in nature. Camping gives them the feeling of spending their time in a self-determined, free and flexible way. There is also the community on the campsites: You can, but don't have to, spend your holiday with like-minded people. The offer ranges from permanent camping to eco-camping, where the focus is on sustainability, to glamping (glamour and camping) in luxury mobile homes that cost up to half a million euros. Camping has been and continues to be promoted by coronavirus: closed hotels and the feeling of freedom and security within your own four walls have led to a boom in the sale and rental of motorhomes.
Forecast
Within ten years, the number of motorhomes in Germany has doubled to 770,000 and almost as many caravans. In the same period, however, the number of campsites has also fallen by a fifth (20%). With increased demand, however, more offers will (again) emerge. These will become even more differentiated and cater to specific interests - from adventure camping and pitches in metropolises to romantic campsites for those in love with nature. Regardless of preferences, however, the most important criterion for all campers when choosing a pitch in the future will not be the location, pool, bread service or WLAN, but the availability of sufficient, well-maintained sanitary facilities.
