What parents want to pass on to their children today has changed noticeably in recent years. While discipline and obedience used to play an important role, values such as responsibility, honesty, health and environmental awareness now take centre stage.

The world is changing - and so are our worries. While many fears in interpersonal interactions have decreased over the last 25 years, there is an exciting generation gap: Young people under 35 are more relaxed about many challenges than the 55+ generation. Why is this the case?

Travelling will remain a central part of many people's lives in the future. At the same time, however, there is a growing awareness of the challenges facing tourism, such as flight shaming, the boom in private accommodation and the problem of overtourism.

East Germans favour holiday destinations such as the coasts in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the holiday regions in Brandenburg or the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. West Germans, on the other hand, more often spend their holidays on the beaches in the west of the republic, the Black Forest or the Alps. These results illustrate how strongly travel experiences and regional differences influence the choice of holiday destination.

Around one in ten German citizens spontaneously decides on a holiday destination and books last-minute trips. Young adults are by far the most likely to react to offers at short notice, while people in all other phases of life are more likely to plan ahead.

Vor zehn Jahren unternahm jeder fünfte Bürger mehr als eine Urlaubsreise. Im letzten Jahr waren es mehr als doppelt so viele. Fast jeder vierte verreiste zweimal, mehr als jeder zehnte dreimal, und jeder zwölfte noch häufiger. Mit steigendem Einkommen nahm auch die Reisehäufigkeit zu: Der Anteil der Mehrfachreisenden war bei Besserverdienenden mehr als dreimal so hoch wie bei Geringverdienenden.

Die Mehrheit der Bundesbürger blickt mit Sorge auf die kommenden zwölf Monate. 63 Prozent der Bevölkerung äußern Ängste und Unsicherheiten, während lediglich 37 Prozent optimistisch in die Zukunft schauen. Dabei zeigen sich Unterschiede zwischen verschiedenen Bevölkerungsgruppen: Frauen bewerten die Zukunft pessimistischer als Männer (+6 Prozentpunkte). Besonders auffällig ist der Unterschied beim Einkommen: Geringverdiener äußern häufiger Sorgen als Besserverdienende (+9 Prozentpunkte).

Fast die Hälfte der Deutschen (49 %) gibt an, in ihrer Freizeit stärker von kostenpflichtigen Aktivitäten abhängig zu sein, als ihnen lieb ist. Dieses Ergebnis verdeutlicht, dass der finanzielle Aspekt eine zunehmend bedeutende Rolle in der Freizeitgestaltung spielt und für viele ein Spannungsfeld zwischen Wünschen und Möglichkeiten darstellt. The last few weeks of the year are a time for contemplation and tranquillity - at least in theory. But how do Germans actually spend the festive season? Is the focus on the family, or are more and more people packing their suitcases to celebrate under palm trees?

The call for more cohesion in society is becoming increasingly clear. For example, 89 out of 100 respondents believe that there is less and less room for selfishness in our society and that greater cohesion is needed. Compared to 2016, when 86 per cent were already of this opinion, the desire for solidarity has intensified further. Agreement is particularly high among the over 65s: In this age group, 95 out of 100 respondents agreed with the statement.
